Martin DRS1 Acoustic-Electric Guitar

Overview

The Martin DRS1 was the highest rated acoustic-electric guitar in the $500 to $1000 price range in November 2016 - this won't come as a surprise to many.

Based on its high Gearank Score, it would almost certainly still enjoy that status today if it wasn't for the fact that we removed that category from our guide to The Best Acoustic Guitars in January 2018.

The stand-out feature of this Dreadnought guitar is that it has an all Solid Sapele top and body.

Both its unplugged and plugged in tone are very well regarded.

The editor of Acoustic Guitar said, "It has a top-quality build and a fine sound to match. While the guitar does include a few laminate and composite elements—a Stratabond neck and Richlite fingerboard and bridge—it has a traditionally handsome appearance. Add to that the plug-and-play Fishman electronics and you’ve got an unbeatable value."

If you want that Martin sound in an acoustic-electric but have to keep the price under $1000 then this is your best option.
