Overview

The Korg Pitchblack Pro is a rackmount tuner based on their popular tuner pedal.

It houses the same 3D LED display, only this one is longer as it goes horizontally through the front panel of its rackmount profile. Although I haven't tried this myself, I've seen reports from other guitarists that say you can even see the screen easily at outdoor daytime gigs.

Like the pedal version, you can choose between Strobe, Half Strobe and Meter display modes.

One nifty feature is its built-in cable checker, which identifies bad cables by simply plugging them in to the unit. This expands the use of the Pitchblack Pro from being a tuner to also being a good gear maintenance tool.

I was surprised that it comes in a light-weight polycarbonate chassis. Maybe it's just me, but I'm used to roadworthy rackmount gear having a solid metal build, but it doesn't seem like it would break too easily, but I'd take care if you're taking it out on the road. Keeping it in a good case should be enough.

The Korg PB05 Pitchblack Pro is the highest rated rack tuner option currently available.
